Colin Carlson was born around 1995 and grew up in Connecticut. His abilities were obvious early; he skipped two grades in public school and, at the age of nine, began taking psychology, history, and other courses at the University of Connecticut while still a child. His childhood became a matter of public attention, with the New York Times profiling him at twelve and Business Insider later including him among a list of the smartest children in history.
His acceleration through formal education was steep. He graduated from Stanford University's Online High School at eleven, then enrolled full-time at the University of Connecticut.
