Celine Tam was born on November 22, 2007, in Hong Kong, into a household organized around music. Her father, Dr. Steve Tam, is a music professor and the owner of singing academies; her mother, Jia Ming Shan, ran the home. Both Celine and her younger sister Dion were named after the Canadian superstar Celine Dion, a detail that tells you almost everything about the family's musical devotion before you hear a single note.

Her training began startlingly early. She started vocal lessons with her father at age three and was performing in public by four. This was not casual encouragement but structured instruction from a professional, and it showed in the technical control she displayed years later: breath support, pitch security, and dynamic range that read as far older than her body. Where many child singers rely on volume and instinct alone, Tam arrived with the scaffolding of real method underneath the voice, which is part of why judges responded to her not as a novelty but as a genuine vocalist.

Celine first drew attention at five, competing in the Let's Sing Kids contest in China with a performance of Secret Garden's You Raise Me Up. The same song became a recurring signature. A duet of You Raise Me Up with fellow child singer Jeffrey Li on the program Little Big Shots went viral, lifting her profile well beyond Hong Kong and setting the stage for an international breakthrough.

That breakthrough arrived in 2017 on the twelfth season of America's Got Talent. Her audition, a rendition of Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On, earned unanimous approval from judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel. With that, Celine Tam became, by widely reported accounts, the first Chinese contestant to receive a Golden Buzzer on the American show, a milestone for representation on the franchise.

She advanced as a semifinalist, and the run earned her a cluster of affectionate nicknames in the press, the Celine Dion of Hong Kong and the Little Giant Lung among them, both pointing at the same astonishment: that so much voice could come from so small a frame. For Hong Kong audiences, she was a source of real pride, a local child holding her own on American prime time.

After America's Got Talent, Tam continued to perform internationally, appearing on Got Talent franchises in other countries, including a Golden Buzzer moment on World's Got Talent, and releasing music as she grew. She became a familiar face on the global talent-show circuit, an ambassador of sorts for Hong Kong's young performers. The challenge facing her was the one facing every child singer: how to let the voice and the artistry mature past the novelty of being small and astonishing, into something that could stand on its own as an adult career, distinct from the Celine Dion comparison that launched her.

It is worth noting how much of her appeal rested on contrast. The repertoire she chose, My Heart Will Go On, How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, was adult, sweeping, emotionally heavy material, and the spectacle of a tiny child delivering it with full conviction is what made audiences gasp. But the same contrast that thrills at nine can become a limitation at nineteen, when the novelty of size is gone and only the voice remains. Tam's path forward depends on that voice having been built well enough to carry the weight on its own.

Celine Tam's story is, in part, a story about a name as a roadmap. Her parents declared an ambition before she could speak, and then did the patient work, years of lessons starting at three, to give her a real chance of reaching it.
